lithuanian citrus refresher
I was jet-lagged and thirsty. My first taste of this drink was heaven (in Vilnius, Lithuania). I am not a juice drink so this was a happy and refreshing compromise for someone who doesn’t want or need that extra sugar. So once I got back to the States, I made this recipe my own, based on the flavor profile of my memory, the colors in the pitcher, and the fruit in my fridge. My version is a moderately low sugar drink (the original had mango juice, mango chunks and added cane sugar). Number of Servings: 6-8
32 oz (or so) pitcher of drinking water
1 blood orange or large orange
1 lime or lemon
1 red grapefruit
10-20 drops liquid stevia (or 1 tablespoon dried, in pouch)
Wash all fruit and carefully chop, including rinds, into small pieces and place in pitcher. Add water to cover all fruit and place in fridge overnight (if using dried stevia leaves, place in a teabag and add to pitcher). Taste in the morning and add liquid stevia as desired! You can refill the pitcher with water until flavor fades. Serve topped with a sprig of fresh mint!
